Photoshoot Leonardo Muzii

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure to do a photo shoot with Leonardo Muzii. A professional conductor based in Basel, Switzerland. We had a pleasant late afternoon and took a number of great pictures on the roof terrace of Leonardo’s house.

Classical Music and Baroque Dance in Bad Zurzach (CH)

Saturday May 20, 2017, the Hochrheinisches Kammerorchester had a festive concert to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Conducted by Leonardo Muzii, they played a very interesting program.

The concert started with the ‘Kleine Sinfonie’ by Paul Juon. A beautiful piece, with a delicate balance between romantic and modern music.  This was followed by the ‘Violin concert in D-Moll’ by Felix Mendelssohn. The soloist for this concert was Giovanni Barbato. A performance I will remember for a long time.

After the break the orchestra was joined by the Compagnie enSuite. They performed baroque dances while the orchestra was playing pieces by Lully, Delalande, Rameaux, Telemann and de la Coste. It was clear that the dancers were extremely skilled. Despite the (obvious) need to dance perfectly synchronized, it was clear the dancers really mastered their act: they cleary had a tremendous amount of fun.

Dvorak and Gounod in Meiringen

Sunday evening May 7, 2017 I was in Meiringen (Switzerland) to attend a concert of the Orchestverein Interlaken. One of the reasons why Meiringen is well known is due it’s Reichenbachfall which plays an important role in “The final problem”, a book by Conan Doyle about his hero Sherlock Holmes.

Meiringen also has a beautiful church, and this was the venue where the concert of Orchestverein Interlaken took place. The orchestra was conducted by Leonardi Muzii and played two works. The first one was the Concert for Violin in A-moll Opus 53 by Dvorak. Here the solo part was play by Alexandre Dubach.

It was an incredible performance. The audience was so enthusiastic that Leonardi Muzii and Alexandre Dubach decided to repeat part of the Dvorak concert. Alexandre Dubach really enjoyed it, and was so enthusiastic that he decided to share his bouquet of roses with Leonardi Muzii and some of the players in the orchestra.

The second work was the second symphony of Gounod in Es-Dur. An incredibly powerful romantic piece. This was the first time I heard the being played live. I was incredibly impressed with the conductor and the orchestra. It is a very, very difficult piece due to all the different tempi and counter melodies and the performance was one I will never forget.

A wonderful review (in German) of the concert has been written by Lia Näpflin in the Jungfrauzeitung. This review also contains a video fragment and two of the pictures I took.

Great performance of Orchester Wallisellen and Valeria Curti!

The ‘Orchester Wallisellen’, conducted by Leonardo Muzii, gave another wonderful performance last Sunday (April 2, 2017) at the Roman Catholic Church in Dietlikon. There was also a great performance by Valeria Curti, who joined the orchestra for the Concert for bassoon and orchestra by Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868).

The following pieces were played:

  • Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837) – Ouverture opus 101
  • Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868) – Konzert für Fagott und Orchester
  • Franz Schubert (1797-1828) – Sinfonie No. 2 in B-dur

All pictures taken with the Olympus OMD-EM10 camera with the 17 mm 1.8 and 45 mm 1.8 lenses. Post processing in Lightroom.
