Started to paint abstract again (1)

I finally have the time and peace of mind to start painting again! For starters I created a series of three abstract paintings in quick succession. I love the abstract expressionists, especially Clifford Still, Richard Diebenkorn and Willem de Kooning. The last one is my absolute favorite.

Two other paintings are nearly finished. I will share them when they are.

I am very interested in your comments on the paintings. Please let me know what you think!

The Küffner Gals in concert

The Hague Public Library at the Spui has a great tradition of organizing lunch concerts. On April 20, 2017, I had the pleasure to attend a concert of ‘The Küffner Gals’. The Küffner Gals are Maryse Legault and Adrianna van Leeuwen, two extremely talented Canadian clarinet players who have chosen to play on classical clarinets.

Playing a classical clarinet poses a number of challenges, the most important one being that the fingering system is completely different from modern (Reform Boehm) clarinets.

The program consisted of works by Joseph Küffner, Francois Devienne, Ignaz Pleyel and Amand Vanderhagen. It was a wonderful concert, and it was great to see that both the players, as well as the public, had a great time.

Modern Architecture Rotterdam

Being born in the Hague, it is clear where my loyalties lie. Having said that, I recently visited Rotterdam, and was pleasantly surprised. The city oozed a great entrepreneurial spirit and confident non-nonsense attitude. I also loved the architecture around the Erasmus Bridge, some of it I had never seen before.

Great performance of Orchester Wallisellen and Valeria Curti!

The ‘Orchester Wallisellen’, conducted by Leonardo Muzii, gave another wonderful performance last Sunday (April 2, 2017) at the Roman Catholic Church in Dietlikon. There was also a great performance by Valeria Curti, who joined the orchestra for the Concert for bassoon and orchestra by Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868).

The following pieces were played:

  • Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837) – Ouverture opus 101
  • Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868) – Konzert für Fagott und Orchester
  • Franz Schubert (1797-1828) – Sinfonie No. 2 in B-dur

All pictures taken with the Olympus OMD-EM10 camera with the 17 mm 1.8 and 45 mm 1.8 lenses. Post processing in Lightroom.
